Past ICC

Events

This page contains descriptions and media of past events the ICC has participated in or hosted.  It also contains information regarding programs the ICC has showed an interest in planning in the past (whether or not the activity actually took place).  This is intended to give students and potential collaborators better familiarity with the types of activities the ICC participates in and may be interested in continuing.

Executive Senate Collaboration: Laverne Cox "Ain't I a Woman?"

Community Service ICC is a member of ASI's Executive Senate that incorporates the student leaders of each funded/funding council and ASI program.  The Senate meets bi-weekly to discuss issues within their councils, collaborate on different events, and communicate with the ASI Vice President and VP of Finance.

This year a special budget was reserved for the Senate to collaborate in bringing a speaker to campus.  After several weeks of deliberation, the Senate voted to select Laverne Cox as this year's speaker. Laverne Cox is an Emmy-nominated actress who can be seen in the Netflix original series Orange is The New Black where she plays the ground breaking role of Sophia Burset.  Laverne is the first trans woman of color to have a leading role on a mainstream scripted television show, and is a well-known LGBT advocate.

A more detailed description of the event can be found in our blog.

This event has been cancelled due to low student registration numbers.  This decision was made out of consideration for the proper use of student fees and out of respect for the time of guest panelist.  A record of this event and its goals will remain on the website for the purpose of documenting the ICC's past interest and intentions of holding this event

"Goals for this event include the following:

  • Encourage members of all community service clubs to interact, bond, and form connections through team-building activities that strengthen cooperation and collaboration.

  • Showcase the service events planned and/or participated in by the community service clubs.

  • Allow club members to share and reflect on their service experiences, including the skills and abilities gained as a result.

  • Help students better understand how their volunteer experiences can benefit them in pursuing personal and professional ambitions by hearing from leaders of non-profit and service-based organizations."

The Service Showcase
Concern America's Walk Out of Poverty

On March 28, 2015 CSICC encouraged students to participatie in Concern America's 18th Annual Walk Out of Poverty.  This event allowed students of different communicy service clubs to volunteer together.  Approximately twenty students assisted the non-profit organization by directing to the correct path and away form traffic.

This service opportunity incorporated CSICC's mission to connect clubs who share similar values and passions for helping others.  By serving together, students are able to build relationships with other members of the ICC.

Special thanks to Veronica Mendoza and Sandy Cheung for taking the initiative in making this a CSICC program.

Stop Hunger Now

As of March 27, 2015 this program has been placed on hold due to conflicts with ASI Policy regarding the use of student fees.  The ICC still hopes to host a Stop Hunger Now event in the future through fundraising efforts.  Information will remain on the website for the purpose of documenting the ICC's past interest and intentions of holding this event on campus.

"CSICC is in the planning stages of bringing the non-profit, Stop Hunger Now, to campus to hold a meal packaging event.  The goal of the event is to have members from each service club work together on a service project.  This will incorporate each club's mission, to give back to the public, and provide an opportunity for service-minded students to meet and connect.

More detailed information regarding Stop Hunger Now and meal packaging events can be found here."

ICC Retreat (Spring 2015)

CSICC Spring Retreat was held February 6, 2015 in the Titan Student Union.  Every ICC Representative and one other club member in a leadership position was asked to attend.  Attendees included members from Alpha Phi Omega, Autism Speaks U, Circle K International, Rotaract, Student Veteran's Association, Students 4 Autism, and Volunteer Service Center Student Association.

Club members described the pupose and mission of their club, allowing other students to gain a greater knowledge of ohter of service-based clubs and their activities.  Attendees divided into small groups to discuss areas in which their club was doing well and areas where they were struggling.  ICC Leaders presented on the organization of the ICC, its .  The group brainstormed on ways the ICC could help clubs individually, as well as unite service-based groups.  This feedback will be used to create a strategic plan for the ICC, to give future ICC leaders an idea of where the organization is heading.

Spring Fair 2014

The Spring Fair of 2014 again served to promote community service clubs, but this time incorporated an aspect of service itself by having each club host a mini-service project at their booth.  These mini-service projects included hand tying blankets to donate to an animal shelter, creating cards for sick children in the hospital, and braiding friendship braclets for the Boys & Girls Club.  The ICC partnered with Titan Tusk Force who were promoting upcoming athletic events, and the student athletes participated in some of the mini-service projects as well.

Titans In Action: Day of Service

Headed by Volunteer Programs Coordinator and CSICC Advisor Alisia Kirkwood, CSICC helped to promote and support Titans in Action: Day of Service on November 15, 2014.  This event was a campus-wide initiative to encourage students, faculty, staff, and alumni to commit to 2 hours of service in the greater Orange County and Los Angeles County areas.  Participants were encouraged to promote the event via social media by using #TitansinAction.

Participating clubs included Circle K International, who hosted an on-campus service event, and Rotaract, who partnered with Placentia Rotary to pack meals.

Fall Fair 2013

The Fall Fair of 2013, known as CSICC Day, sought to promote and raise awareness of the community service organizations on campus.  Students from six service clubs represented their organization by tabling outside the Humanities building.  A Teach English Abroad (Summer) comminity service program joined the event, providing students with another outlet for serving the community.  Apporximately 350+ students received snacks from the booths, giving clubs the opportunity to speak to them about their organization and recruit new members.
